Design Process
The Initial Design Package
I typically begin most projects with an 'Initial Design Package,' which consists of three design drafts as we work towards a comprehensive plan. For medium to small projects, this is usually sufficient to kick off bid coordination for an installation.
Step 1: On Site Meeting & Prep. Get to know each other and discuss preferences, needs, and budget for your specific project. I will then take time to acquire all the photos and measurements needed for an accurately scaled plan. For larger more complex projects, a topographic survey may be required.
Step 2: Schematic Plan. I like to start by mapping out the layout, of each new space, noting all hardscape features and rough planting bed locations.
Step 3: Master Plan. Once we have a basic feel for the new space(s), we can then dive in the details of hardscape material, surface finishes/colors, specific accessory items and structures. I will also create a specific planting layout based on the climate, soil conditions and aesthetic preference.
Additional Phases
The extra phases of design are all about diving deeper into the details to make sure everything fits the project's goals. By focusing on these parts, we can really refine each element to fit the holistic vision. Plus, working together and making adjustments along the way is super important to nail the final result!
Step 4: 3D Renderings. These realistic images allow clients to see how different elements like plants, pathways, and structures will look together and view them from different angles.
Step 5: Construction Details. To provide clear instructions and specifications for implementing the design. Ensuring that materials are used correctly and that the overall vision is realized accurately.
Step 6: Bid Acquisition. Meet with the appropriate contractors to discuss an installation of your dream garden spaces!
